AS Roma have raised their asking price for
Manu Koné
to £51 million – up from £43 million just weeks ago – as Liverpool and Arsenal have both made enquiries for the 25-year-old, complicating Manchester United’s pursuit of their third midfield signing.
The escalation was reported by
Corriere dello Sport
journalist Eleonora Trotta, who revealed that Koné’s representatives have been in contact with multiple Premier League clubs as the Frenchman seeks a move that represents a step up in both profile and salary. This is the second price hike Roma have imposed in a matter of weeks.

United have been monitoring Koné closely as they look to add to their midfield this summer, with Trotta’s reporting indicating they have made the most progress among the interested clubs so far. The caveat is that none of the suitors – United, Chelsea, Liverpool, or Arsenal – has yet emerged as a clear frontrunner.
Roma have made it clear they are prepared to negotiate a sale only on their own terms and will only sanction a transfer if their valuation is met.
Whether they are genuinely fielding competing offers or engineering a bidding war to extract a higher fee from United specifically is the operative question for INEOS.
The Reds have already committed significant outlay on Andrey Santos (£48m initial fee from Chelsea) and Youri Tielemans, and
midfield has been the priority position all summer
. The third signing was always intended to be a physical, high-coverage operator capable of shielding the back four – a profile Koné fits precisely.

With
Manuel Ugarte’s knee injury ruling him out of preseason
, the urgency for a third central midfielder is real. Carlos Baleba remains an alternative, though Brighton’s valuation has proved similarly stubborn. Sander Berge has also been flagged as a lower-cost option should player sales not generate the headroom needed for a £51m move.
INEOS’s position will harden or soften depending on what United can raise in outgoings. If Roma hold firm at £51m and Liverpool or Arsenal escalate their interest into formal bids, United may be forced to either match the fee or redirect their budget entirely.
