Manchester United may have signed two midfield talents in the span of less than a week but it won't stop there. Michael Carrick purportedly wants another engine-room operator added, with the club seemingly on the verge of another fresh addition.

This week brought the news that both Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos will be playing at Old Trafford this season. Tielemans has just returned from World Cup 2026, though there's one name still competing who is seemingly bound to become his team-mate.

There are other areas around the squad that need to be addressed, however, as United prepare for their pre-season tour. Mirror Football analyses the latest headlines around Old Trafford as the summer makeover accelerates.

Speculation regarding United's interest in Manu Kone has developed quickly after a standout World Cup for the Frenchman. So much so that the Premier League powerhouse has supposedly agreed a fee to sign the player from Roma .

That's according to Old Trafford legend Rio Ferdinand , who offered an update on the situation via his official YouTube channel . And it's Ferdinand's assertion that his old club has a £45million deal structured to bring Kone to England.

The ex-England defender said in his latest transfer update: "Fabrizio Romano just confirmed that Man Utd have agreed a £45m fee for Kone from Roma, the French international midfielder."

Romano recently said in his own update that United have had contact with Kone's representatives. However, he stopped short of confirming a deal between the two clubs.

Sky has upgraded its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle to now include HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+ and Hayu, as well as 135 channels and full Sky coverage of the Premier League and EFL.

Following Casemiro's departure and the collapse of Ederson's move from Atalanta, United are still believed to want a more defensively minded midfield technician. Santos, who has joined from Chelsea in a £50m move, can operate in this capacity but doesn't boast quite the same experience.

It's also been reported Aston Villa are seriously interested in Kone, particularly after losing Tielemans to United. However, the Red Devils could stoke the flames further with their Birmingham adversaries by pipping them to a deal for Kone as well.

There's movement at Molineux this week following speculation Joao Gomes has left Wolves ' training camp for a medical. However, it's Villa who are believed to have won the race for his signature.

That's according to talkSPORT , which reported Villa have agreed a £35m move to sign the Brazilian. And he's alleged to be on his way for a medical, which will take place on Friday.

That sum is identical to the fee Villa received for 29-year-old Tielemans. And Unai Emery's side have moved to instantly reinvest the funds, adding some much-needed midfield reinforcement after Amadou Onana suffered a serious injury at the World Cup.

Gomes, 25, had looked set to join Atletico Madrid before a disagreement with Jorge Mendes, who was brokering the deal, caused its collapse. However, it appears Wolves will received their desired fee after Villa quickly escalated their interest.
