Mac Allister's dad delivers honest truth about Liverpool exit talk as Real Madrid eye deal

Alexis Mac Allister's father has moved to quash speculation that the Liverpool midfielder is looking to quit the club amid the impasse over a new contract. Carlos Mac Allister insists it is entirely within the club's remit to decide when they wish to open talks over fresh terms.

That follows a candid admission of frustration from the Reds star last week. Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch, who arrived at the club in the same summer as Mac Allister in 2023, have both been handed contract improvements this year, prompting the former Brighton man to say he was "very, very sad" about his own situation.

But his father - himself a former Argentina international - has sought to downplay the matter. Acknowledging that Liverpool had yet to make contact following last week's remarks, he told Scores 365: "No one from Liverpool's management has contacted us to renew his contract yet.

"We have a contract that is valid and we are committed to it with Liverpool. And if the club does not offer to renew the contract, it is their right. For now, Alexis has to give his best for the club in every game over the weekend.

"Alexis is not disappointed. This is a decision that the club makes, and we don't judge their decisions, we just prepare for what's to come."

Rumours linking him with a move to Real Madrid have been dismissed, with Carlos stating: "No-one from Real Madrid has contacted us at any point in the entire career of Alexis."

Mac Allister made his eye-opening comments ahead of last week's Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid, another club he was linked with in the summer. He said: "There were options to leave this summer.

"I think as everyone knows I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which of course makes me very, very sad.

"I think I give 100 per cent for this football club every single day in training, games. Of course, I can have very good games, bad games, like everyone, but I always give my best.

"I see Dominik and Ryan renewing their contracts and that makes me very happy because they deserve it, but at the same time, it makes me a little bit sad I didn't get mine.

"Of course, there is still time, the fans don't need to worry because I will give 100 per cent until the last day I am here. We will see what happens. But I think right now I am in the right club and I have the right mindset to give my 100 per cent to the club."
