Inside Real Madrid's master plan to sign World Cup Champ Rodri

Madrid considers him an option, but right now the priority is departures.

The name of Rodri has been linked with Real Madrid for several years now, but it is true that after shining at the World Cup and finishing as the tournament’s Golden Ball winner, the question any Madrid fan is asking right now is always the same: But is Madrid really not going to sign Rodri?

Well, the answer right now is up in the air. What does seem clear is that Madrid is not currently involved in this possible signing. At the club, they are mainly focused on departures because there are players on the market who do not fit into Mou's plans.

And that is where Rodri's name appears. Although the largest current when analyzing Madrid's drop-off over these last two years points to problems in midfield following the departures of Kroos and Modric, the club's only and most recent move, however, has been Tchouaméni's renewal, a player who plays in the same position as Rodri. A significant decision that translates into the club trusting what it already has.

However, Madrid is not going to close the door on Rodri because there is still time before the transfer window closes and both Madrid and Mou himself have time to draw conclusions in the friendlies and even when the season gets underway. To this Friday's clash against Alcorcón, another against Leganés on July 24 must be added, on August 1 against Fiorentina in Austria, and on the 12th against Deportivo in the Teresa Herrera.

A feasible and more affordable than ever option

Rodri's signing would undoubtedly be the most high-profile of all unless Madrid were able to convince Bayern to bring in Michael Olise. The City player is willing to wear white, and with one year left on his contract, it is a cut-price transfer that could be around €60 million.

It would help give a bit more national identity to a Madrid side that in this World Cup has had no representation in the Spanish national team; he is a Ballon d'Or winner and arrives as the best player of the World Cup. Those seem like sufficient reasons to consider it.

Rodri has also shown that he has fully recovered from his serious knee injury, based on what was seen at the World Cup.
