Harry Kane told he has no chance of winning Ballon d'Or - 'He disappeared'

Harry Kane has been told that he is now out of running for the Ballon d’Or after England’s failure to win the World Cup. The Bayern Munich captain was among the favourites to claim the award after a stunning season in Germany.
Kane, 32, scored 61 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions and helped Bayern to the Bundesliga crown, as well as the German Cup. But he was unable to lift his first Champions League crown, with the German side only managing to reach the semi finals.
Meanwhile, Kane endured more heartache at the World Cup as England fell at the semi-final stage in the USA, the striker having scored six goals in seven appearances at the tournament.
And former Arsenal and Chelsea star Emmanuel Petit has warned Kane that his failure to win either competition might have cost him his chances to win the Ballon d’Or.
Speaking to Mr Gamble, the Frenchman said: "Harry Kane's Ballon d'Or chances are over. If you base that only on the German league, okay, no problem at all.
“But in the Champions League and with the national team, when it started to be really hard to win, I think he disappeared.
“I can't point the finger at him because he tried everything he could, and he scored many goals, but he didn't have an impact in the big games, just like in the Champions League. So I think there are a few names ahead of him."
While Petit believes Kane is no longer among the contenders for the Ballon d’Or, he has suggested that there could be a few Spanish stars now firmly in the running after their success at the World Cup.
He added: "Yamal? He had a great World Cup. You know the rules for the Ballon d'Or have changed so much, just like the rules on the pitch. Rodri has been the best player again during this competition. Messi had a great competition, but he plays for Miami."
"I know the World Cup is above any title you want with your club. But in the meantime, you have to win the title. Is it going to be a Spanish player? I have no idea. But it's going to be tough. And in the end, I hope it won't be a commercial decision."
Kane is currently on holiday after his international commitments but once he returns to Bayern Munich, he is expected to open talks over a new contract with the German giants.
