England star Guehi piles pressure on Argentina with strong World Cup statement

Marc Guehi insists all of the pressure is on Argentina ahead of their World Cup semi final showdown.

Three Lions defender Guehi says England will relish the chance and it is

Argentina

who will be feeling the heat because they are expected to defend their title.

Guehi said: “There isn’t pressure on us. What’s the pressure? The onus is on them. They’re the World Champions. They need to come out, they need to defend their title. There’s no pressure on us at all.

“Everyone is excited, to be honest. The occasion, big players, everyone’s relishing the opportunity against them and looking forward to it.”

Argentina are attempting to become the first team to win back-to-back World Cups since

Brazil

in 1962 but they will have to get past England in a huge grudge clash.

The rivalry goes beyond the pitch but Guehi says they will be ready for the challenge even after the exhausting extra time epic against

Norway

.

But Guehi says it did take a lot out of the squad - but they will make sure they are well prepared and he also insisted he is fully fit after a hamstring injury scare before that Norway game.

Guehi said: “It was intense. The heat plays a massive factor in it. But when you’re in a quarter-final or a semi-final, all that stuff goes out the window. It doesn’t matter, it’s just about getting through it and doing the best you can.

“Just make sure you’re right for that game because it could be the game of your life. So do what you can for your country. That’s most important.

"I'm all healed up from whatever concern it was, so ready to go for it. I’m looking forward to this game. We don’t know what the outcome is going to be.

“We’re playing one of the best players in the

world

, but we know that. Everyone is relishing the opportunity, everyone is ready to go.”

Guehi also said that while Argentina have

Lionel Messi

and Co, England have

Harry Kane

and

Jude Bellingham

and are up for the occasion.

He added: “It’s a big game with big players. Both sides have great players and when you have that it’s just going to be a good game. You know it’s going to be a fun watch and one we’ll be talking about for a long time. So, yeah, excited.”
