Dominik Szoboszlai signs new bumper Liverpool contract as the Reds' star midfielder puts pen to paper on a new long-term deal

Liverpool

have confirmed that midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal at the club.

The 25-year-old has been rewarded for his impressive performances in what was a disappointing campaign for the Reds last term.

The bumper new contract is set to keep Szoboszlai at Anfield until 2031 and represents a huge coup for the club after the departures of

Ibrahima Konate

and

Trent Alexander-Arnold

to

Real Madrid

on free transfers in recent years.

'It's maybe my biggest day,' Szoboszlai said to the club website. 'There are a couple in front of it – probably when I signed for Liverpool the first one and when I got my baby, of course. But in my football career, I can say this is in the top three.

'Very happy. [I] can't wait to go again and again and again. I'm just happy to be here, as I said many times.'

The midfielder joined from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023 and has grown into one of the club's most important players.

He played a major role in Liverpool's Premier League title triumph in the 2024-25 season, before becoming the Reds' main man last term, raising his game after the £116million arrival of attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz.

Szoboszlai displayed his versatility, playing in a number of positions, including as a No 10, winger, deep-lying midfielder, and right back. Nevertheless, the Hungarian was excellent and still managed to bag a remarkable 13 goals and 12 assists.

'There's always more to come. I'm never happy,' Szoboszlai continued. 'No, I'm happy with myself, but I think I can do even better.

'I think that's why I'm sitting here, because that pushed me since I was a kid: that it was never enough. And I'm thinking the same now. I want to set the example. I want to be an example also for everyone, as much as I can.

'When I signed, I said I want to win everything. That didn't change for a little moment either. It stayed the same: I want to win everything that is possible in this country, also let's say the Champions League. I'm ready to go for it.'

Szoboszlai's Hungary side were not at the World Cup having lost a play-off – a moment that left the player devastated – but the bonus for Liverpool is that he will be with them for the full pre-season under new boss Andoni Iraola.

Many big names, such as fellow midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, will not join up with the squad until the start of the new season given his participation in the World Cup final with Argentina, where he looks to defend their world title.

It will give a chance to some fringe players like Curtis Jones and young midfielder Trey Nyoni on the pre-season tour of Nashville, New York City and Chicago, with games against Sunderland, Wrexham and Leeds.
